Sprain Care

Superior Sprain Care

Put simply, a sprain is an injury to a ligament, and should not be confused with a strain, which is an injury to a muscle or tendon. Sprains can happen for any number of reasons, such as falling, twisting, and other actions that can force your joint out of place, causing the ligaments to stretch or tear.

So, what do you do if you sustain a sprain? Turn to our sprain care staff. We understand that together, the agonizing pain and swelling make doing seemingly simple tasks impossible. We will evaluate your injury, determine if you have in fact, sprained something, and prescribe a treatment to help you heal your ligaments. It is vital to visit your primary care doctor right away for sprain care, as broken bones or fractures are often mistaken for sprains.

Sprain care treatments can be as simple as resting the sprained area and applying ice to the injury. In some instances, we may prescribe a strong NSAID (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug) to reduce the swelling and pain.

Care for a Sprained Ankle, Knee, or Elbow

The human body is a fascinating work of art made of bones, muscles, tendons, nerves, ligaments, and more. Each element of your body has a different function. For example, your ligaments are elastic-like bands that hold your joints in place and connect bone to bone. When it’s sprained (injured or torn), your joint swells, bruises, and is painful to the touch. The most common sprains are a sprained ankle, sprained knee, or sprained elbow; however, they can occur anywhere there is a joint. If the pain and swelling are severe, the chances are that the injury is greater and will require sprain care from our skilled and qualified team.

Seek urgent care if you:

  • Cannot Bear Weight on the Sprained Joint
  • The Joint Feels Unstable or Numb
  • You Cannot Use the Joint
  • A Redness or Red Streaks Develop (This Can Mean There Is an Infection)
  • You Have Re-Injured a Joint That Has Sustained Multiple Injuries in the Past

At our primary care clinic, we don’t think of you as just another patient. We think of you as a person, who deserves the highest quality medical treatment available, whether you’ve suffered from a sprain, illness, or injury.
